The European project “SoundRoutes ‘Notes to get closer’, launches the ‘SoundRoutes Booking Agency’, an initiative dedicated to the professional integration of migrant and refugee musicians.
In 13 months of tireless activity, the SoundRoutes project has brought together dozens of migrant and refugee musicians giving them the opportunity to perform with local artists within their hosting communities, producing more than 30 events in Spain, Italy, Germany and Belgium. A casting call to participating musicians was put out with the aim to form an international band from selected musicians to co-create music. The selection process will end next autumn with two concerts, in the Berliner WERKSTATT DER KULTUREN and at the Bologna Jazz Festival.
The SoundRoutes Booking Agency is the last initiative within the project with the goal of increasing opportunities for refugees and migrant musicians, raising their visibility and showcasing their music in different EU countries. It is a web based multi-ethnic list of musicians which will be promoted at European level, reaching out to national music agents, theatres, festivals, concert halls and music programmers.
“We are starting with a list of 22 musicians, but we have built so many relationships with artists in the four countries that the booking agency will grow exponentially over the next weeks. Any other musician who recently arrived in Europe is welcome to join the agency” says Ivan Pivotti the CEO of Marmaduke the Seville based cultural company leading the project. The other SoundRoutes partners are Bologna Jazz Festival (Italy), Werkstatt der Kulturen – Brauerei Wissmannstraße e.V. (Germany), the Italian NGO Un Ponte Per… and the cultural association Vzw De Vergunning (Belgium).
